Religion was not something that had much application once you left church. When I was 19 my mother left my father for another man whom she later married. A few years after that the scales fell from my eyes and I opened my heart to the Lord and accepted Jesus Christ as my personal Lord and Savior. I would share Jesus with my mother from time to time, but she was not at all interested. Three years ago, my mother's husband died suddenly at 47 years of age. Following her husband's funeral, my mother came to stay with my wife and I at our home. We took my mother to church with us each Sunday and shared the Gospel with her, but she did not seem to be interested. When my mother was ready to go back to her house after a couple of weeks, I drove her home. As we were driving, she asked me a question which I never expected and will never forget. She turned to me and said, "How do you get saved?" After almost driving off the road, I explained the plan of salvation to her and recited the prayer of salvation for her. I invited her to pray the prayer, but she said she was not ready. I implored her to reconsider, but she was not ready. After this happened, I talked to her regularly about Jesus and encouraged her to attend an evangelical church in her area. Two years later, in March 2005, she called me and said that she had found a church in her area and was planning to go to the Good Friday service. My mother kept her word and attended the Good Friday service. After the service she called me and said that she now understood why Jesus had to die for our sins and that she was prepared to commit her life to Jesus Christ. The next week she went to the same church again and asked Jesus into heart and became saved. She has never been the same since. Immediately the Lord softened her heart and she has been transformed. She has been sharing Jesus with her neighbors and anyone else who will listen. She routinely tells me how she has shared the Gospel with people while she is out and about. She was baptized during the summer of 2006 and is fully committed to Jesus. Everyone who knows my mother has been astounded by the transformation that has taken place over the past nine months. My mother's salvation is truly a testimony to God's grace and transforming power. Praise and glory our Lord and Savior!!
