In the past I have preached on the different names of Jesus, God, Holy Spirit, and Satan just to name a few. The names of each of these and many others in the Bible share with us significant things about the person or place. For example, if we remember the story of when Abraham took Isaac to be a sacrifice. Abraham told his son that God would provide an offering. And just as Abraham was about to sacrifice his own son God had provided a ram caught in a thicket. After Abraham offered the ram to the Lord, he then named the place where he was, “Jehovah-jireh”, which is to say God my provider. If you, as a student of the Bible, study that particular passage (while I barely scratched the surface) you will find the richness of the term that is used.

Each name for the following people tells a story about who they are. These names whether good or bad tell us their nature and their business. When we study the names we will find out what we have to trust in or what we have to fight against. Take each of these name serious because just as true as these names represent them in the times that the Bible was written, they are as legitimate for us today.
