Postures in Prayer PDF Print E-mail

Through my growth in the Lord I always wondered, in what posture should I pray? Was there a way in the Old/New Testament that was required? Is there a way that we must do it now? Will God not hear us if we don’t have a particular posture before Him? As I have told numerous people, if you have a question God has an answer. The most important part about prayer is not the posture of your body, it is the posture of your heart.

Matthew 6:10, "Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven"

You must come before God with a humbled and submissive heart.

Matthew 26:39, "And he went a little farther, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt."

With a humbled and submissive heart you will see that your posture (body) will begin to take shape.

Take note of the following postures:

Genesis 24:26, And the man bowed down his head, and worshipped the LORD.
