Key Verse:2 Timothy 3:16-17 says, "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works." Many people have asked about reading the word of God. People often wonder how much they should read and what to read. I once read in a book where the author asked the questioned how often are you tempted by the things of this world? How often do trials and tribulation come your way? How often do you need to make decisions? You as a believer, need to be prepared for every circumstance that comes your way. The first thing that needs to mentioned, is that you need to handle every circumstance exactly the way that God wants you to. And how would you be able to handle these circumstances the way that God would want you to unless you know what God says, in His word?
This tells us that God's word will thoroughly furnish us with all the answers that we as believers will need. So the question arises once again, how often should you read the word of God? Everyday. You should read the Bible every single day because we will have to make decisions everyday. Not only do we make decisions every day, but we have to make decisions that are right in the eyes of God. In order to be ready to make the right decision you have to be brushed up and prepared. Bottom Line:Read the Bible everyday. But another question may be, "Where do I start reading?" In my walk I have found that when I pick one book (in the Bible) and read it entirely it has been helpful. I did this opposed to reading a little here and a little there. By doing this you find that you could become bored or overwhelmed with what you read. When I first came into a relationship with Jesus, I started to read the smallest books that I could find. If I remember correctly, I started with the book of 1 John. The reason that I started to read 1 John was because there are only five chapters in it. To be quite honest with you I hated to read, but I knew that it was something that I should do. How much should you read? I recommend that you read just one chapter a day. Now, you are probably thinking that one chapter is not enough. Listen, one chapter of God's word will be enough to hold you over for the day because when I say read one chapter I am not referring to speed reading. I am talking about taking your time and really asking God to help you understand it. |
