Offering to the Lord

When we talk about our offerings to the Lord we are talking about giving all that we have. Unfortunately when we first get saved, most of us, really do not know where to start from. Some questions that we ask are do we start at ten percent? And if so, then do we tithe (a tenth of one earnings) our net income or our gross?

These are good questions but the important thing that we have to remember is that we need to start some where. Remember also that through our giving is a form of worship. So lets take some time and effort as to what we are going to give to the King of kings and the Lord of lords. The following are a few simple steps that I took in order to give all that I have to the Lord.

1. First and foremost, we have to remember to give with a cheerful heart.

2 Corinthians 9:7 says, "Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver."

2. Start with a base. I started with ten percent of my take home pay. Now remember that this probably will not be easy for the first couple months but God will reward you for taking what is already His and giving it back to Him.

3. Once you have begun to give your base and you becoming faithful to give this amount regularly, then begin to pray that God will give you courage and faith to give more. Now when you decide to give more do not pick some crazy figure that you will not be able stay committed to.

4. Continue to ask God to help you to be able to give more. Remember, it isn't how much you give but rather how much you have left over that show your trust in the Lord.

2 Corinthians 9:6, "But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully."

5. Purpose to stay committed every step of the way always putting your tithe/offering first. Make that your first check written and trust that God will give what you need from here on out.

Philippians 4:19, "But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus."

I pray that from this point forward you would be able to give with a cheerful heart and trust God for the rest. Believe and He will provide.
