Homosexuality is one of the “forbidden topics of discussion.” There are so many things that we as Christians must make a stand for, homosexuality being our focal point right now, but the world has either convinced us that this activity is okay or that it is not our place to make the people aware of their wrong doing. Before we go too far I have to make mention that this is not a writing to bash but rather educate, as this site is intentional in doing. Homosexual is a two part word. Homo which means same or identical and sexual which is pertaining to sex. When you put these two words together we have two of the same sexes (male or female) doing sexual acts or having sexual attraction to the same sex. The important thing to remember is that this is not a new fad that has crept into our world but rather an old sin that has surfaced. Homosexual activity has been going on from the beginning of time. If we look to the book of Genesis chapter 19, we will see that Lot was visited by two angels (which were men). As those two angels (men) were brought into the house of Lot, verse four tells us that the men of the city (Sodom) surrounded the house. The verse goes on to tell us that these men were both old and young. Guess what these men wanted? They wanted to “know” these men. This word “know” is a word that is associated with having sexual relations. If you look back to the beginning of Genesis, you will see that Adam “knew” Eve (Genesis 4:1, “And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the LORD.” ). Take notice that when Adam “knew” Eve she conceived. Biblically, we see that homosexuality is not something new but rather has been around since the beginning of time. Homosexuality has been around almost as long as sin itself. We can not fall into this thought that homosexuality is another “sign” of the end times. Many times I hear people say that all of these things that people do now means that the world is coming to an end. The fact of the matter is that sin and the extremity of the sin has been around for a very long time. The only difference is that what once was taboo to openly share with others is more accepted now. When we look at homosexuality what do we see? Do we see just people? Do we see people making bad decisions? Do we see people acting out the way that they have been created? What is our view towards this behavior? These are all great questions, so lets dig in. Homosexuality is nothing that the Lord wants us to be part of. You may be asking the question, “why?” The answer is simple because it is a sinful act. Look back at Genesis 19:7, “And said, I pray you, brethren, do not so wickedly.” Lot begged the men not to pursue this act of sin, the act of homosexuality toward the men (angels). As he begged them, they got mad and threatened to do worse to Lot then what they had planned to do with the other two men. This evil act was not something that God was willing to overlook. Genesis 19:15, “And when the morning arose, then the angels hastened Lot, saying, Arise, take thy wife, and thy two daughters, which are here; lest thou be consumed in the iniquity of the city.” This verse clearly points out to us two things. First, we see God’s mercy toward Lot by warning him to get out of the city. Second, we see God’s disgust with the city of Sodom by His desire to “consume” them “in the iniquity of the city.” God’s hatred for their behavior goes hand and hand with His hatred for sin. God does indeed hate sin. As a matter of fact we see in the book of Habakkuk (1:13, “Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity…” ) that God is so perfect that He can not bear to look at sin. If God is so perfect that He can not bear to look at sin, then why are we able to look past it? Why are we able to ignore it? Why are we content in not saying or doing anything? Is it because we are content with people conducting themselves in certain ways as long as it doesn’t bother us? There has to be a certain responsibility that falls on us to call it the way it is. It is our job as believers to make a stand against the things that God won’t even look at. We as a body of believers have to get in the mind frame of looking at things the way that God does. If God hates sin, so should we. We can’t be afraid to stand up for the truth. One item that we must get on the table right now is the fact that people were not created as homosexuals. God, a perfect and flawless God, created man in His own image. If a perfect and flawless God creates something, how could it not be made perfectly? God can’t create anything that’s not perfect. Therefore, we as people were created perfectly by a perfect God. That being said, we have to look at this act of homosexuality as sin. Sin was first introduced to man when Adam partook in the fruit at the Garden of Eden.
The point at which the fruit was eaten, sin had entered the world. At this very point is when the sin was not just in the adults but also the unborn children. David, in Psalm 51:5 says,
“Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.” He was not conceived in iniquity because of his mother being an adulterous woman or fornicating but because of the flesh problem of mankind. Look at Matthew 15:19, “For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:”So you see, the sin problem was and is because of man, not God. Being a homosexual is the same as any other sin, a choice. It is the choice of man as to whether or not you will partake in the act of sin. This choice, by the way, is one that will have to be made no matter who you are. No matter the color of your skin, nationality, or religion the choice is yours. You know, many times homosexuality is looked over because they say they are hurting no one. But James has an answer for this.
Sin is sin no matter what you think. They are hurting someone, themselves. If you look through Romans 1:24 and 28, we find the Lord giving the people over to the lust of the flesh and a reprobate mind. This proves to us that you have a choice. You can either do what is good and right or you can make the choice to follow after sin and destruction. Finally, we must remember that the act of homosexuality is not different than any other sin. Homosexuality can be compared to lying, cheating, drunkenness, murder, theft, and robbery just to name a few. Do not allow what you think to be a weightier sin to affect you differently. Do not look at the murderer and say, “lock them up” but with the homosexual say nothing. Sin is sin and it is unpleasing to God. In this, remember that when we go and talk to those that need to hear the truth, go in love as we saw Christ do with the prostitute.
